Biography - Gurdas Mann

Gurdas Maan (Punjabi: ਗੁਰਦਾਸ ਮਾਨ, gurdās mān) is a Punjabi singer, songwriter, choreographer, and actor. He was born on 4 January 1952 in Giddarbaha, Muktsar District, Punjab, India. Gurdas Maan gained national attention in India in 1980 with the song "Dil Da Mamala Hai". Since then he has gone on to record over 27 albums and has written over 200 songs. Early lifeGurdas Maan was born in a Sikh Maan Jat family in Gidderbaha Faridkot, Punjab (India). Gurdas Maan was formally educated in Malout. After completing his education there, his parents enrolled him into a further education institute in Patiala. As a keen sports enthusiast Gurdas was fascinated by the National Institute of Sports in the city, this prompted him to join the N.I.S and gain a Masters Degree in Physical Education. During his time in Patiala he took part in youth festivals organized by various universities and won several awards for his singing and acting. He competed in many athletic events and won medals including a bronze at the National Championship as well as achieving a black belt in judo. Gurdas Mann is one of the best Punjabi singers right now. Saif Ali Khan recovers & plans for a holiday with Kareena

Saif Ali Khan had been hospitalized in Leelavati hospital on Christmas eve owing to a stomach upset, but now he is well on the way to recovery.

Speaking from his hospital bed at Leelavati hospital on Dec 26, Saif said, “I’m almost recovered now. I’m going home today (27 Jan). It was nothing, really.

I returned from Philadelphia from the shooting of Rensil d’Silva’s film on 23rd night. And since I was missing all the Mumbai ka khana, I gorged indiscriminately on local junk food, sev puri bhelpuri, paani puri….puri ki puri fauj went into my stomach.”

Saif claims it was nothing serious and he is going for a holiday with Kareena as pre-planned. She said, “It was gastroenteritis. Yes, I’ve been in hospital twice in the recent past. Once it was just an appendicitis. And the other time it was far more serious. After going through what I did the last time I’m hardly going to get scared by a little stomach infection.”

He added, “Actually it’s much less scary than it looks. I’ve got a drip coming out of my hand, so that makes it look kind of serious. But it’s nothing. I’m fine. Just a little sleepy. In fact Kareena and I are going on our holiday to the mountains as planned.”

Dhoni-Bipasha to set Hong Kong on fire!

Team India captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, may have been in the limelight for receiving threats to his life from extortionists/terrorists, but the fearless and charismatic captain is undeterred. The cricketer who ranks right up there with the topmost Bollywood stars, in terms of popularity, is at present the number one brand name (amongst cricketers) in the ad world and can be seen in various promos, right from selling chips to his passion, motorbikes. And we have news from a close family friend (from his home town Ranchi in Jharkhand) that Dhoni has left Ranchi for Bombay, and will shortly leave for Hong Kong to shoot an ad with the hot and sexy Bipasha Basu.

Dhoni plans to stay for around three to four days (from 3rd Jan to 6th Jan) in Hong Kong, where he will take part in the shooting, along with one of the sexiest actress of Bollywood, Bipasha. It will indeed be a great experience to watch the two set Hong Kong on fire. But his biking friend John Abraham need not worry as Dhoni will come back in Ranchi immediately after finishing the shoot because he wants to spend as much quality time as possible with his family and friends.

Our source also adds that Dhoni has made it clear that he loves his hometown and no amount of threat can keep him away from his place of birth.

Apparently, Rajkumar Hirani who is nearing the completion of 3 IDIOTS has come up with this strange title for his next project. According to the latest buzz, I AM STUPID might be a sequel to Hirani's 3 IDIOTS. It is believed that it is going to be a multi-starrer film and Hirani has already signed Kay Kay Menon for one of the lead roles.

Meanwhile, his 3 IDIOTS is based on Chetan Bhagat's popular book '3 Mistakes of My life'. It stars Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Sharman Joshi in lead roles.

When Nikhil Advani got confused with CC2C's action choreography

There is an interesting story that goes behind how Nikhil Advani worked with Chinese action director Huen Chiu Ku in CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA. A film maker who is used to being intimate with every aspect of his films, whether it is costumes, music, lighting scheme or shot execution, it took some time for Nikhil to get used to Huen Chiu Ku's (also known as Dee Dee) working style.

Says Nikhil, 'There was no shot breakdown! Dee Dee's style was truly unorthodox and it took some time getting used to it. Initially I would be on the set, wondering what Dee Dee would cook up next! However, the unique blend of intense preparation and Dee Dee's whirlwind improvisation worked perfectly for the action and the humour.'

It was Rohan Sippy who signed Dee Dee, a Kungfu action director, during his trip to China. As per him, Dee brought to the film the kind of action they were looking for; at times raw and comic, yet smooth and lyrical when needed.

In the stunt business for 27 years, Dee Dee has worked as part of acclaimed action director Yuen Woo Ping's team since 1991 and has collaborated with Jet Li on most of his films.

Accidents seem to have become a way of life for Katrina Kaif. First Katrina badly injured her face while shooting for Rajkumar Santoshi's AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHAANI at Madh Island recently.

A unit hand said, 'It was an emotional scene. It so happened that Ranbir was supposed to slap her in the scene and in adherently his hand missed the mark and ended up hurting Katrina. Rajkumar Santoshi was extremely sensitive towards Katrina's pain. He asked her to take a day off to rest. But the professional that Katrina is, she was back at work the next day.'

After that, Katrina met with accident yet again and this time it was on the sets of DE DHANA DHAN. A source close to the actress revealed, 'Katrina was to shoot an underwater sequence for the film. But while doing that she badly injured her leg. It began bleeding profusely.'

Everyone was worried but despite the injury Katrina continued to shoot the next day too. 'But while shooting Katrina began bleeding profusely once again. She somehow managed to complete the shoot. Katrina did not complain of the pain even once. The entire unit and even Priyan was completely impressed with Katrina's professionalism.'

No wonder Kat's every filmmakers delight!

The legend of Shah Rukh Khan lives on

New Delhi, Jan 3 (IANS) It was love at first sight for both Deepika Padukone and Anushka Sharma when the then school-going girls watched Shah Rukh Khan win hearts in “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge”. But not even in their wildest dreams did they think that they would star opposite the superstar in their maiden ventures.Hailing from Bangalore, both the model-turned-actresses have been self-proclaimed Shah Rukh fans since childhood and have grown up watching almost all his films.

Deepika’s and Anushka’s entry into Bollywood came as a pleasant surprise and pushed their big-screen careers on a high as their debut films - “Om Shanti Om” (2007) and "Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi" (2008) respectively - hit the bull’s eye, courtesy their co-star Shah Rukh Khan.

“Initially, I was very nervous about working with him. But Shah Rukh made it very comfortable for me. We did readings together; we met socially so that we were comfortable when we faced the camera. He’s someone I grew up watching,” 22-year-old Deepika had told IANS in an earlier interview.

Said 19-year old Anushka: “I never had the intention to be an actress. It happened out of luck and I consider myself very fortunate to be part of such a big banner (Yash Raj Films) in my debut film and to be working with a star like Shah Rukh.”

Her favourite films also include “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge” and “Chak De! India”.

Considering the age difference between him and Deepika, Shah Rukh also aired a joke in the media before the release of “Om Shanti Om” about his fear of being called “uncle” by his co-star on the film sets.

Though the age difference between him and his co-stars was big, it was hardly a deterrent in the success of the two. The audiences and critics were generous with their applause for the on-screen chemistry between the 40-plus actor and the young girls - Deepika and Anushka.

Shah Rukh’s humorous take on his affection for younger co-stars was also seen in the media.

“I have so much love for Kareena, Deepika, Priyanka and Anushka. They tell me that I am the youngest hero they have worked with. In fact, they say I am younger than the young guys. I work with these young girls without any ulterior motives of seducing them.

“Priyanka still does not call me by my name. I had crowned her at a beauty pageant. She says ‘Sir’ or just begins the conversation without taking my name. Nobody calls me uncle except Sushmita, she tells me I’m very old,” Shah Rukh said.

However, his celebrity fan following doesn’t end here. Telugu actress Seiya, who hit stardom with her debut film “Neninthe” last year, is another self-confessed diehard fan of Shah Rukh.

Having already watched “Rab Ne…” thrice, the 20-year-old has now expressed her desire to act with the iconic actor as Anushka has done.

“I just love watching Shah Rukh Khan and his riveting performance. I would love to be in the shoes of Anushka, who’s had a dream debut,” she was quoted as saying.

Other model-turned-actresses who made their debut opposite Shah Rukh are Mahima Chaudhary in “Pardes” (1997), Preity Zinta in “Dil Se” (1998) and Gayatri Joshi in Ashutosh Gowariker’s “Swades” (2004).

Ajab Prem Ki Gajab Kahani

For the very first time Bollywood Queen Katrina Kaif and the hot and happening Ranbir Kapoor are coming together for Rajkumar Santoshi’s directorial venture ‘Ajab Prem Ki Gajab Kahani’. Katrina Kaif recently got hit on the face by Ranbir Kapoor, of course unintentionally.

Kat was shooting with Ranbir on the sets of the movie in Madh Island where the duo were acting out a chase sequence where they were hounded by goons. The scene demanded Ranbir to turn around and hit one of the chasing goons. He did that but in the bargain hit Katrinas’s nose with his hand and the actress ended up with a bleeding nose. She was immediately given a first aid on the sets.

The actress was in great pain but realized that but it was unintentional, so she didn’t complain. Injured Kat confirmed the incident. Ranbir plays Prem, an innocent guy in the film and he will play two distinct characters in the movie similar to Charlie Chaplin and Raj Kapoor.

The film is gonna hit the box office soon this year.

Shaan: an all rounder

When Aamir Khan came to Rani’s rescue

After being criticized for her out of shape self, Rani has finally managed to achieve a leaner frame and all this with the help of good ole friend Aamir.

Just when Rani Mukherjee was struggling badly to lose weight, good friend Aamir came to her rescue. Rani has always been struggling to look slim, from strict diets to regular working out regimes; Rani has tried all she could to fight flab but all her attempts failed. And that’s when Aamir suggested his personal trainer Stayajit Chaurasia’s name to Rani.

Satyajit Chaurasia played a major part in helping Aamir achieve the eight-pack abs look for Ghajini. Being impressed by his work Aamir suggested Rani to hire Satya as her personal trainer. And as they say, hard work pays, after working out an hour every day for two months, Rani has been able to lose oodles of weight and look the way she has always wished for.

The all new Rani did a cameo in Aditya Chopra’s Rab Ne…in a song with Shah Rukh Khan. Her new slim look had the audience in awe and reminded one of her Ghulam and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai days. The bong babe will next be seen playing cricket in Yash Raj’s forthcoming untitled film and we are sure her new found kick-ass figure will play Thoda Magic once again on her fans.

Rimi Sen first time in a dual role

Rimi Sen, who has been away from the Bollywood scene for quite some time will now be seen in a double role for the first time in Abdul Samee Siddiqui’s film Horn Ok Pleassss….It is learnt that Rimi shall be playing two diversely opposite characters in the comic caper.

The actress who was known as the lucky mascot of bollywood was last seen in De Taali. When quizzed about the role the actress said “when I heard the story and my character, I found it very challenging. Both my characters are smart and intelligent still they are poles apart in their approach. I am playing Nana Patekar’s s wife Ria who is a truck driver and in the other I am the love interest of Muzammil. Director Rakesh Sarang is an intelligent Filmmaker. It’s been fun doing this film. I enjoyed flitting from serious to fun mould of two diverse characters during the shoot.”

Kajol puts an end to her binging to look sexy

Kajol is on a weight losing spree, Reason? Her latest project with Karan Johar! The lady who will be starring in My Name Is Khan is doing all things possible to fit the bill and some super sexy dresses.

"She couldn't say no as she plays an NRI woman in the film and as per the look of her character she has to look thin. Hence she had to forego her binging habit and start with a special diet. She is currently in Los Angeles shooting for the film with her two good friends, Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan, " says a unit hand.

Her instructor is taking care that Kajol includes lots of nuts, especially almonds in her diet. Apart from keeping a tab on the calorie intake, Kajol is sweating it out at the gym too to cut that extra flab.

Interestingly, SRK had stopped working out as his six pack abs look was not required in Aditya Chopra's Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi.

As far as his look in My Name Is Khan is concerned, he plays an NRI Muslim man here and is required to look lean. We hope that the all new lean looking Kajol and Khan create the same on screen magic like their previous films.

Preity Zinta rings in New Year in Canada

Preity Zinta and beau Ness Wadia are away at Canada to celebrate the New Year. Preity Zinta has been working very hard throughout the year and wanted to go skiing this year with Ness and ring in the new year along with him. From there Preity will be flying to Los Angeles next.

The actress has been very busy this year and did not get time to holiday. The year for Preity began with her IPL matches plus shooting for films like Jahnu Barua’s Har Pall, Samir Karnik’s Heroes, Deepa Mehta’s Heaven On Earth and Rituparno Ghosh’s The Last Lear. Having been busy Preity did not get time to pay attention to herself. Hence the actress is now busy taking care of her fitness and has also lost the oodles of weight that she has gained. Preity now weighs 46 kgs and is all set to storm bollywood with the new image.

“Newness in work and life makes me feel charged up. While I try to reinvent myself, I get up with a fresh day, derive inspiration from the surroundings. Being energetic and nervous at the same time make me feel as if I have reinvented myself” says the actress. The actress has been approached by directors like Yash Chopra and Sanjay Leela Bhansali too and is looking forward to a great ahead this year. Katrina is not going the rave party way

The buzz is that Bollywood's hot property Katrina Kaif has reportedly refused to play murdered teenager Scarlett Keeling in Prabhakar Shukla's film 'Rave Party'.

So reports that Katrina was shifting dates to play Scarlett as her dates are booked till 2009-end are false.

Apparently Kat was keen in the beginning, but keeping the controversial subject in mind, decided to opt out as she found the subject too controversial. Reportedly Kat has stated that she doesn't want to do films around a subject that has 'no clarity' and many unanswered questions.

The Internet Movie Database website also shows Katrina's name in the starcast of the film with its status 'in production'.

Shukla is looking for someone else from UK to play Scarlett, who was murdered on Goa's beach early last year.

The director is also awaiting the green signal from Scarlett's mother Fiona Mckeown as he has sent her the film's script for approval.

The buzz is that South Indian director Venkat Prabhu is making 'Goa' which is also based on Scarlett's murder and is produced by Rajinikanth's daughter Soundarya's Ocher Studios.

When SRK rescued Shahid and Priyanka

After Bipasha Basu, Priyanka Chopra and Shahid Kapur have decided to talk about how the terror attacks of 26/11 were hard on them too.

The buzz is that the cast and crew of their new movie with Vishal Bharadwaj- 'Kaminay' were shooting outdoors at Marine Drive on that fateful November day, when terrorists attacked several hotspots of the city. The unit had no choice but to pack up hastily and leave for home.

But apparently on their way home they learnt of another terror attack in Juhu, where they were headed.

With little choice left, the duo reportedly called Shahrukh whose bungalow Mannat was nearby.

SRK warmly invited them home and did not let them leave the place until morning till things looked safer and the Juhu attack turned out to be a rumour.

Gauri was reportedly very hospitable too.

Well, nothing surprising since SRK's known for things like that. But we wonder why the stars are coming up with their horror stories from 26/11 now, after more than a month. That still remains one big mystery.

Shweta Bhardwaj: I want to show people that I can beat Shahrukh

“Mission Istaanbul” actress Shweta Bhardwaj says she has the ability to beat King Khan’s energy on screen.

“I would really want to work with Shah Rukh Khan because I want to beat his energy. Everyone keeps raving about his energy level and I want to show people that I can beat him on that,” Shweta told IANS on telephone from Mumbai.

The model-turned-actress, who made her Bollywood debut with Apoorva Lakhia’s film on global terrorism, “Mission Istaanbul”, also did the Telugu movie “Indumathi”.

Her first Hindi film was not very well received at the box-office, but Shweta is unperturbed.

“I was not disappointed with the bad performance of ‘Mission Istaanbul’. If a film doesn’t do well, that doesn’t mean it’s not a good film. It’s quite possible that the audience didn’t understand the film. What I’m happy about is that I was noticed in the film and got individual appreciation,” Shweta said.

“Mission Istaanbul” was produced by Suniel Shetty’s Popcorn Entertainment and Shweta is currently shooting for her second film, “Loot”, which is again produced by the same banner. It also stars Suniel, Govinda, Javed Jaffery and Mimoh Chakraborty.

The movie, scheduled for a March release, revolves around four over-ambitious people who come together to rob a person in Bangkok to make a quick buck.

Shweta says she had to be extra careful on the sets of “Loot”.

“On the sets I had to be very conscious because everyone was senior and I didn’t want to hurt anyone. In fact, once I called Govinda, Chichi bhaiya, and Suniel told me it wasn’t appropriate. So after that I became very careful,” Shweta said.

The starlet, who did not shy away from flaunting her curves, is firm that she just wants to concentrate on mainstream commercial films at the moment even if the role is deglamourised.

“I’m open to a deglamorised look, but I want to do more of commercial films, at least right now. I want to first make a mark for myself in the industry, create my identity and then do arthouse films. I feel it’s important to first make a commercial value for yourself,” she said.

Asked what it takes to survive in this industry, Shweta said: “I think what you need to survive in this industry is attitude, a lot of patience and careful selection of roles.

“Sometimes you have to wait for the right kind of role. But you have to be patient because if you choose a wrong film, then it might hamper your career,” she said.

Shahid Kapoor dances on Jiah Khan’s tune

The cute guy has been linked to many actresses and this time around it’s Jiah Khan who’s all set to make Shahid dance on her tunes.

Well, before you reach the conclusion that Jiah is the new lady in Shahid’s life, let us clear the air. We are only talking about director Ken Ghosh’s Yahoo. Interestingly, Shahid who is known to be one of the best dancers in Bollywood will be seen playing Jiah’s student in the film.

This is for the first time that Jiah and Shahid are paired opposite each other. The film is based on dancing and Shahid portrays a passionate dancer with Jiah playing his dance guru.

Jiah admits, “Yes I play a choreographer in this beautiful love story. Shahid is like an institute of dance by himself and in this film I am teaching him how to dance.” This is something hard to believe but yes, Shahid will be seen learning his dance steps from Jiah.

So how has Jiah prepared herself to match steps with the dancer Shahid? “It’s definitely tough to keep up with Shahid but I have been dancing since the time I was six so I have been trained in lot of dance forms. We have choreographers from Hollywood. They have really made us feel like Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake in the music videos so I am really excited about that.”

Emraan Hashmi loves horror flicks more than romantic films

Known as serial kisser in Bollywood Emraan Hashmi has enjoyed his playboy image in most of his films. Except his last film Awarpan where he tried to be different but failed to attract his fans. Apparently the actor himself feels that his naughty streak was missing in the film. Now he promises to continue his much popular playboy image.

Emraan is looking forward to work on Mohit Suri’s Raaz 2. This sequel of Raaz will once again have Emraan and Kangana Ranaut together in main lead. This will be their second movie after Gangster.

Apprently Emraan who has tried different genres, reveals that he loves the Horror genre. Also feels that the horror genre has never been explored properly in Bollywood.

According to him Raaz 2 will be unlike other Bollywood horror flicks. “Bollywood’s scary movies have been all about loud sounds and hideous makeup but Raaz 2 is going to change the definition of horror films. The scenes in the film are scary as we are actually shooting in the creepiest of places.”

Being thrilled of shooting at such creepy places, Emraan reminisces “We have shot in a place called Panghar in Rajathan. We were told not to shoot there after sunset by the villagers. We were amazed to see that there was not a single government office in the area because it is said to be a haunted place. We have shot at such places to make the film authentic.”
