Ghajini Latest Box Office Report , Ghaini Rs 200 Cr Breaks Box Office Records Collection

January 9th, 2009

Bollywood has shot to a new high, thanks to 'Ghajini'. When booking for the movie opened at a theatre in the UK on Wednesday, the film became the first to gross Rs 200 crore at the worldwide box office. What's more, the mark has been achieved in little less than two weeks. It has grossed Rs 162 crore in the domestic market and Rs 39 crore has come from overseas till Thursday.

An ecstatic Madhu Mantena, the Ghajini producer, admits to being "overawed'' by the record but trade consultant Amod Mehra is apparently not surprised. "The film was very strong from Day 1. It has been galloping like a onehorse race and, in my estimate, it will cross the Rs-250-crore (gross) mark very easily,'' Mehra said.

Bollywood producer Punkej Kharbanda is also not surprised that a Hindi film has broken all previous box-office records. "In the last year alone, there has been a 40% increase in cinema screens and also a rise in the cinema-going population, especially in the age group of 18-35. With most of the theatres recording good numbers on Ghajini, the Rs-200-crore mark is hardly a surprise,'' Kharbanda said.

Ghajini released with the maximum number of prints in India (1,200 digital and analog versions) and it made inroads into even provincial towns where films never get released on the same day as the rest of the world. A trade source said, "The film is set to take over the mantle of the highest domestic Bollywood earner from Anil Sharma's Gadar-Ek Prem Katha.'' In the overseas market, the film is, till now, second only to Karan Johar's Kabhie Alvida Na Kehna.

Ghajini has also reportedly earned Rs 4 crore from gaming rights (a first for a Bollywood film), Rs 21 crore for satellite rights for India and overseas and something to the tune of Rs 10 crore for home video and music.

Total Ten : Ram Gopal Verma's RGV Movie on 26/11 Mumbai Terror Attacks

January 9th, 2009

Two weeks after most filmmakers registered films relating to the terror attack on Mumbai, Ram Gopal Verma has gone and registered a title for a film called Total Ten. Can it be more than just a coincidence that there were ten terrorists that attacked Mumbai? A source close to the director spills the beans for us.Ramu knew that there would be a huge number of films that would be registered relating to the attack.

RGV won't be the first director to want to cash in on the 26/11 carnage. As many as 30 titles had been registered with the Indian Motion Picture Producers' Association and Association of Motion Picture and Television Programme Producers even before the terror attack was over. Shootout At Taj, Shootout At Oberoi, Shootout At CST, Operation Black Tornado, Operation Cyclone, Ultimate Hero, The Real Hero, Woh 60 Ghante, Taj To Oberoi are some of the titles that have been registered by directors and producers. Producer Kumar Mangat has registered the titles 26/11 and 26 as well.

Patiala House : Akshay Kumar's Next Movie in 2009

January 9th, 2009

Like we gave you Aamir Khan in wife Kiran's film Dhobi Ghat when everybody else was talking about Ghajini, BT now breaks the news of Akshay Kumar's next big film even before his Chandni Chowk To China releases. It is called Patiala House. And, yes, the King of Singhs is going back to Punjab with this comedy. There are going to be 32 Sardars in the film, all seen in one frame, not even Akshay's Singh Is Kingg was so daring! These 32 Sardars are all members of one big joint family in Punjab. Among them is Dara Singh, the Godfather of Bollywood's Sardars, and son Vindu. Vindu spoke to BT, "After I completed shooting with Akshay for Kambakt Ishq, he asked me to keep myself free in 2009 for this film. He also wants dad to be part of it. My dad has retired but he can't say no to Akshay who had obliged him by doing one of our Punjabi films." Nikhil Advani and Mukesh Talreja, who made Chandni Chowk to China, are producing Patiala House. Confirming the news, Nikhil said, "It goes on the floors this year."

And, if you are wondering which of Akshay's fave ladies — Katrina Kaif, Kareena Kapoor or Deepika Padukone — will be opposite him in this film, then here's another little bit of news that BT's got. There are talks that South Indian actress and Ghajini star Asin may play the lead role.

Nandana Sen injured her ankle in Bangkok while shooting for a dance sequence

January 9th, 2009

No fancy foot work

Nandana Sen injured her ankle in Bangkok while shooting for a dance sequence with Viveik Oberoi. She has been recommended six weeks bed rest

Nandana Sen, whose Rang Rasiya is due to release soon, injured her ankle while doing a dance sequence opposite Viveik Oberoi on Wednesday evening, in Bangkok.

Wincing in pain in spite of heavy sedatives and her foot in a cast, Nandana said, "I've been prone to accidents since my childhood. I always keep bumping over and tripping into things. During Rang Rasiya I kept dancing with a cracked rib. The pain is still persistent.

While shooting for this same film in Capetown, I drove a motorbike at high speed from the roof of one skyscraper to another but thankfully there were no injuries. Meanwhile, here in Bangkok while shooting for a dance sequence with Viveik my foot gave way. Isn't that funny?"

What's funnier for Nandana is that the injury actually happened much before. She says, "I was shooting for an Indi-English film in New York when I badly sprained my ankle. I should have attended to it immediately then, but I continued to work. When I reached Bangkok and began shooting, my foot gave way. I wobbled and felt my leg become jelly. That's when I knew it was serious."

Apparently, the production in-charge took Nandana to the hospital and got her ankle treated and plastered. However, now the actress' schedules are all in a mess since she has been recommended six weeks bed rest. "I was supposed to get back to New York and resume my shoot after the Bangkok song. Now that's off. And I feel awful."

For now, it's a forced holiday for Nandana and her boyfriend Madhu Mantena, producer of Ghajini. Madhu, we hear left all his work, including efforts to transfer the Ghajini copyright-infringement case from the High Court to the Supreme Court, to go get his girl. "That's why they call him a go-getter," joked Nandana.
