In Tamil Trisha still gets around around Rs 70 lakhs, according to sources.

Bollywood Box Office Report January 9 - 16

January 22nd, 2009

The big release of the previous Friday, Nikhil Advani's Mithun Chakraborty, Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone, Gordon Liu and Ranvir Shorey starrer, CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA, failed to embark on the flying start that it was expected to. Released at around 103 cinemas of Bombay-Thane by Warner Bros. Pictures (I) Pvt. Ltd., CC2C had a fair opening to show. The film has taken an excellent opening in some circuits like Delhi-U.P., East Punjab and C.I. but its start in some of the other circuits has been from average to fair. Trade predicts that considering its heavy cost, CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA will entail losses to its makers (who are also its worldwide distributors) because it has absolutely no strength to sustain. In the Overseas, the film has performed decently in the US grossing $685,798 (4-days), but is quite ordinary in the UK with a weekend gross of just $404,404.

The performance of the first releases of 2009, namely KAASH... MERE HOTE, BAD LUCK GOVIND and the English film THE PRESIDENT IS COMING is nothing to write home about. While the first two films, KAASH... MERE HOTE, and BAD LUCK GOVIND, barely managed to get to 10-15 lakhs a piece from India, THE PRESIDENT IS COMING went on to collect 25 lakhs from Bombay, 1.10 lakhs from Pune, 6.40 lakhs from Delhi city, 1.65 lakhs from Noida and 2 lakhs from Gurgaon. Needless to add that all the three January 9 releases have failed badly, with THE PRESIDENT IS COMING faring somewhat better, netting around 60 lakhs from India..

Meanwhile the Murugadoss directed Aamir Khan starrer GHAJINI continues its dream run. The film is still doing very well all over collecting 2.10 crores from Bombay, 52 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 2.25 lakhs from Nadiad, 24.35 lakhs from Baroda, 3 lakhs from Himmatnagar, 1.65 lakhs from Valsad, 16.75 lakhs from Rajkot, 5.25 lakhs from Jamnagar, 3 lakhs from Bhavnagar, 2.75 lakhs from Gandhidham, 53.75 lakhs from Pune, 5.75 lakhs from Kohlapur, 3.65 lakhs from Solapur, 2.75 lakhs from Sangli, 9 lakhs from Nasik, 13.65 lakhs from Goa, 1.25 crores from Delhi city, 14.10 lakhs from Noida, 21.45 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 13.75 lakhs from Kanpur, 23.45 lakhs from Lucknow, 9.15 lakhs from Agra, 10.35 lakhs from Varanasi, 3.25 lakhs from Allahabad, 4.50 lakhs from Dehradun, 7 lakhs from Meerut, 4.45 lakhs from Moradabad, 2.75 lakhs from Aligarh, 6.50 lakhs from Gorakhpur, 2 lakhs from Muzaffarnagar, 3 lakhs from Amritsar, 3.45 lakhs from Chandigarh, 20 lakhs from Gurgaon, 7 lakhs from Faridabad, 1.30 lakhs from Panipat, 26.50 lakhs from Calcutta, 2.75 lakhs from Guwahati, 21 lakhs from Nagpur, 3 lakhs from Amravati, 2 lakhs from Akola, 10.15 lakhs from Raipur, 2.25 lakhs from Bhilai, 1.50 lakhs from Wardha, 3 lakhs from Chandrapur, 11.75 lakhs from Indore, 2.25 lakhs from Sehore, 1.50 lakhs from Ujjain, 31.50 lakhs from Jaipur, 3.65 lakhs from Jodhpur, 5 lakhs from Ajmer, 2.20 lakhs from Bikaner, 2.10 lakhs from Kota, 41.50 lakhs from Hyderabad, 3.30 lakhs from Aurangabad, 1.05 lakhs from Nanded, 5.15 lakhs from Mangalore, 1.15 lakhs from Devangere and 1.75 lakhs from Coimbatore. Adding another 14 crores, GHAJINI has so far netted an astonishing 105-106 crores in just three weeks from India. The Aamir Khan, Asin and Jiya Khan starrer is now a blockbuster hit in India. In the Overseas, GHAJINI has already become the biggest hit of Aamir Khan's career, grossing $2,444,668 from the US and $1,051,809 from UK.

Our last entry of the week is yet again Aditya Chopra's Shah Rukh Khan starrer RAB NE BANA DI JODI, which has another very steady week. The film collected 40 lakhs from Bombay, 17 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1.50 lakhs from Himmatnagar, 5.15 lakhs from Rajkot, 1.50 lakhs from Jamnagar, 1.65 lakhs from Pune, 1.60 lakhs from Solapur, 1.25 lakhs from Nasik, 29.50 lakhs from Delhi city, 4.10 lakhs from Noida, 3.15 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 2.15 lakhs from Kanpur, 5.50 lakhs from Lucknow, 3.15 lakhs from Agra, 1 lakh from Allahabad, 2 lakhs from Aligarh, 1.15 lakhs from Gorakhpur, 4.75 lakhs from Gurgaon, 2 lakhs from Faridabad, 1 lakh from Calcutta, 1.15 lakhs from Guwahati, 5.75 lakhs from Nagpur, 1.75 lakhs from Jabalpur, 1.35 lakhs from Amravati, 1.25 lakhs from Akola and Raipur, 4.15 lakhs from Indore, 1.25 lakhs from Bhopal, 13.65 lakhs from Jaipur, 27.60 lakhs from Hyderabad, 2.20 lakhs from Aurangabad and 1.15 lakhs from Mangalore. With another 2.90 crores during its latest run, RAB NE BANA DI JODI has so far netted a very impressive 83-85 crores in five weeks from India. The film is now the highest ever grosser for Yash Raj Films. Needless to add that the SRK, Anushka and Vinay starrer has now touched the all time blockbuster status, given its ROI (Return on Investment). RAB NE BANA DI JODI is a blockbuster hit in the Overseas, like most SRK starrers, with a gross of Rs. 40 crores. Just for records, in the US RNBDJ has grossed $2,078,956 (till January 15) while UK has a gross of $2,189,817 to show.

Simran In The Second Innings

January 22nd, 2009

Most Popular Simran is on her second innings and unlike her past glory, she has not been able to make her mark.

Sources says that Simran is miffed with her roles as a senior person like the mother’s bit in ‘Vaaranam Aaarayam’ and then as an elder sister in a upcoming film.

Reports says that now, she has put in a strong message to all her directors that seniority roles will not be her choice anymore.

Preity Zinta in Fashion

January 21st, 2009

A bubbly Preity Zinta launched the three-day Gitanjali Luxury Style Fashion Festival last night alongside Neil Nitin Mukesh and Rituparna Sengupta. Preity was upbeat about India’s rapidly-growing fashion industry – now the world’s third biggest – despite the recession. "I wish I had time to see more designs," she said, "India is the land of gold, so I expect to see some good designs even in times of recession, go for gold."

Rumour has it that the king of romance, Yash Chopra, is hoping to take the helm again and has penned a romance that charts the ups and downs of two people deeply in love as they move through life into middle age. Yash is said to have picked out Preity and Aamir Khan as his stars. Preity is apparently keen but Aamir is said to need some more convincing.

Everyone knows that Preity has a smart head on her shoulders and has been pretty successful in handling her own business affairs. Now there are signs that she may be moving up a league as she will be attending the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry Frames Conference in February which will bring together leading business and industrial figures from India and the west. Yash Chopra, Karan Johar, Bipasha Basu and Shakhar Kapur will also be there. Key potential partners include Ben Silverman of NBC Universal and Craig Mundie of Microsoft.

Raaz 2 not connected with first one: director

January 21st, 2009

Jaipur: Raaz-The Mystery Continues does not have any connection with the previous Bipasha Basu and Dino Morea-starrer movie of the same name, says director Mohit Suri while promoting the film here today.

"I just want to clear the doubt that the film is not in continuity with the previous Raaz . The only common thing is that both the movies are based on supernatural theme," said Suri, who is presently promoting the film here along with actor Imran Hashmi.

Raaz-The Mystery Continues is set to be released this Friday.

"...though the name is similar with the previous one but Raaz was the only perfect title for my film," he said.

Claiming that the film was the most expensive horror movie in the Bollywood till date, Suri said "it challenges beliefs about the paranormal phenomena".

Talking about his role in the film, Imran said that he always dreamt of such kind of role and with the making of this film his dream was fulfilled.

Imran also said that he had no comparison with Sharukh, Salman and Ritik as every actor has his own identity.

‘I’m the female Akshay Kumar’

January 21st, 2009

Deepika Padukone unveils the secret of her Chinese look in 'Chandni Chowk To China', but is most excited about working with the Midas-touched actor.

Were you apprehensive when producer Rohan Sippy told you that your role in Chandni Chowk To China (CCTC ) was action-oriented?

Frankly no, I said yes immediately after the narration. After all the king of action, Akshay Kumar, was my co-star. But I realised how tough it was to perform stunts and perform action scenes, only when I started training for my part with an action director from Hong Kong.

What was the training?

I trained for almost six months for eight hours a day. I even injured my ankle thrice while shooting for the film. It was tough but interesting as it was the first time I was doing action and that too with Akshay Kumar.

What is the final result like?

I think I have done a good job. I’d like to believe that I’m the next female Akshay Kumar.

Did Akshay give you any tips for action scenes?

Of course, the most noteworthy was that an actor should never be tense while doing action scenes. To look stunning and have an impact, one should loosen one’s muscles as action scenes require the grace of a skilled dancer. With every film one learns something and I have learnt a lot while working in CCTC.

The disparity between your Indian and Chinese looks in CCTC is remarkable?

That’s because both the looks have been conceived by different persons. Jaimal, a designer from New York, is working in an Indian film for the first time. He conceptualised my action and the Indian look in the film which is very glamorous.Malika Bhatt designed my Chinese look which has me looking very petite and oriental, with poker-straight hair.

There are a lot of expectations from you today. Do you feel the pressure? Not at all. I think that if you enjoy your work, everything else follows.

Percept to release Akshay Kumar starrer Tasveer on 3 April

January 21st, 2009

Akshay Kumar's Chandni Chowk to China has been severely panned by the critics but the movie has gone on to collect Rs 330 million (Rs 33 crores) in India and RS 120 million (Rs 12 crores) from the overseas in its opening weekend. Most have started writing the actor's epitaph as they feel that he now no longer can claim the numero uno position.

However, post the debacle Akshay is back to the studios shooting for Nagesh Kukunoor's Tasveer. Shooting at Mehboob Studios in suburban Mumbai, the producer of the film and Percept Picture Company joint managing director Shailendra Singh feels that there is much ado over nothing. Singh said, "Akshay's position is still strong. My film will not be affected. Tasveer is a psychological thriller and is of a different genre. I am very confident of my product."

Keeping in mind that Akshay has two big releases, Kambakkth Ishq in May and De Dhana Dhan during Eid, Percept will be releasing Tasveer on 3 April.

This patchwork of Tasveer will wrap up the shooting for the film. According to sources, this was very much in the planning, thus quelling rumours that Akshay wanted some portions re-shot. The movie has been directed by Nagesh Kukunoor.

Court orders Maharashtra to release Salman Khan's dues

January 21st, 2009

A Mumbai court Wednesday ordered the Maharashtra government to clear Bollywood actor Salman Khan's dues of Rs. 2.50 million that have been outstanding for long.

Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) judge Y.D. Shinde gave his ruling on an application filed by Salman to clear his dues for acting in the movie 'Chori Chori, Chupke Chupke' that shortly before its release had became controversial with several government departments investigating the sources of its finances from questionable quarters and the suspected mafia links of the people associated with it.

As per Salman's agreement, he was entitled to a payment of Rs.15 million from the movie's producers Bharat Shah.

While Shah and filmmaker Nazim Rizvi were among those arrested, the court appointed a receiver to handle all the financial aspects of the movie post-release, Special Public Prosecutor Rohini Salian told reporters this evening.

Later, the court receiver deposited the income generated by the movie and the payment due to be made to Salman in the state government treasury, she added.

Shinde has ordered that Salman's dues must be cleared by the state government, but the judge did not indicate any time-frame.

Meanwhile, Shah was convicted under sections of the Indian Penal Code but not under MCOCA, while Rizvi is out on bail.

The film, a musical family drama that did above-average business, featured Salman, Preity Zinta and Rani Mukherjee.

Katrina happy to have missed CC2C

Chandni Chowk to China hasn't proved to be a pleasant experience for Mr. Khiladi. The movie got a thrashing at the box office and got creatively slammed as well. So much so that he might lose his new Kinng Kumar title as well. The buzz is that Akki's remuneration too has fallen. It has been said that Ratan Jain, who's producing his next movie, is demanding a cut. Quite understandably so. But Kinng Kumar is in no mood to accept that and is not taking the criticism sportingly.

Rumour has it that Akki's lucky jodidaar Katrina Kaif is happy about having escaped the torturous flick. Not that she was always happy about it. In the beginning she must have despised being overshadowed by Deepika. That explains why she suddenly got very friendly with her boyfriend Ranbir as well. Actually Kat was the first choice for the double role but Kinng Kumar overconfident after his success felt that she would not look Chinese enough.

So Deepika was signed on and the movie turned out to be a disaster putting doubts on the Akki- Deepika pairing. Deepika though hasn't been too unhappy about the whole thing. In fact she's been going around saying that her Chinese look has started a new trend.

But Akki sure is unhappy about the whole thing. But that doesn't mean Kat stands to gain again. He's now considering Sonam Kapoor as his new jodidaar for one of his next films to be directed by David Dhawan's son Rohit. Well, Akki wants to be seen with someone fresh every time. Kat and Dips, please understand that.

SRK doesn't regret refusing Slumdog

January 21st, 2009

Shah Rukh Khan has a knack of staying in the limelight. First it was the success of Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi that broke the jinx for Yash Raj at the box office in 2008, then the Golden Globe presentation and now all the item numbers for his upcoming movie Billoo Barber.

But for once he seems to have missed out on a huge opportunity to soak in the glory of a critically acclaimed, international award winning project! Yes we are referring to the Golden Globe winner Slumdog Millionaire.

Danny Boyle had initially approached Shah Rukh for Slumdog Millionaire for the role of game-show host but King Khan refused. As luck would have it, the role went to the veteran actor Anil Kapoor.

Though Shah Rukh claims he isn't complaining at all. Talking to the media he said that he has no regrets about turning down the role, which has put Anil Kapoor into the global limelight.

Praising Anil Kapoor for his work, SRK said that Kapoor has done a fabulous job and deserves the adulation he has received. Some of the other famous rejects of Shah Rukh inlcude the Oscar nominates Lagaan, the hugely popular Munnabhai MBBS and more recently the Three Idiots.

There were rumours that the original choice for the role was Amitabh Bachchan, but the film's casting director Loveleen Tandon denied such reports.

Interview : Karan Johar

January 21st, 2009

He is known for playing his cards, or shall we say, brewing his coffee well ...always-be it as a producer, director, host or cameo actor. And of course he has his own set of humour that adds a flavour to every thing he does. Karan Johar gets candid with our correspondent.

Is it true that you have become a 'dietician' to Kajol and Kareena?
Oh my God! I expected you to start with DOSTANA and you shot the other way...(laughs). It's all right. See, I have not become a 'dietician' to Kajol and Kareena in a true sense, but I have given them some suggestions to abide by if they are interested in working in my next films. I have asked Kajol to lose some flab for MY NAME IS KHAN. And I told Kareena not to lose weight for an unnamed Dharma Productions film to be directed by a friend Rensil D'Silva.

I understand Kajol's weight loss, but Kareena's size zero is quite 'in' now...
That's a myth and may be a momentary craze. But the truth is Indian audience always prefers a healthy (not fat) heroine...this size zero concept is not for Hindi film heroines, at least that's what I feel.

You will be directing again after quite some time. Tell us more about MY NAME IS KHAN?
MY NAME IS KHAN is a film based on the psyche of a Muslim man whose name comes up in the suspect list of terrorists post 9/11. Yes, as usual, this film has Shah Rukh as the hero and Kajol as the heroine. And I will be directing a film after quite some time. The trio will be back to sizzle the screen after KABHI KHUSHI KABHIE GHAM. So you may as well call it my comeback as a director.

We heard it took you long to persuade Kajol to sign the film. True?
Kajol is always like that...she knows she can never say 'No' to me...still she tries in vain. But the point is, I am very happy that she has finally agreed to do the film because only she can play her character in the film.

Why is Shah Rukh an indispensable part of almost every Dharma Productions film? Is it because he sells?
Shah Rukh is definitely one of the biggest stars in Bollywood and his screen presence does make a difference. But the reason why he is in almost all our films is something different. My father (Yash Johar) was very fond of Shah Rukh, in fact he considered him to be family, which of course, SRK is. And when I decided to make films, he said: 'Beta, if possible, try to involve Shah Rukh in all Dharma Productions projects.' Besides, Shah Rukh has been a friend, philosopher and guide...it's an old association and old habits die hard.

And, what about actors like Rani Mukherjee, Priety Zinta and Kajol who do cameo in all your films, if not playing the lead in them?
My weakness and strength are my friends and I can't do without them. But it's not possible to involve all of them in every film. So I try to make sure that they play at least a small, if not a full-fledged role in my films.

Of late you have become costume designer for Shah Rukh in most of his films including OM SHANTI OM. Is it your new avtaar?
Arre, nehi yaar. I won't like to style anyone except Shah Rukh and I am sure he won't hire me, especially in times of recession. Jokes apart, I enjoy shopping...be it for Farah's (Khan) triplets or Farah herself or Shah Rukh. Whenever I come across something classy, it's SRK who flashes in my mind and I start thinking for which film or scene this dress will suit him.

You have already put your fingers in many pies. How do you manage that?
I don't think I am no longer a trendsetter, especially with Farhan (Akhtar) around. (Laughs aloud) I always did what I wanted to do at a given point of time or what a particular time wanted me to do. But of course, the producer-director part is family business and passion. Besides, that I enjoy chatting with friends for hours and that led to the chat-show. All my friends are from the film fraternity, so hosting awards functions are like interacting and leg-pulling friends.

Just now you mentioned Farhan Akhtar. So any plans to play a rockstar on screen?
You will run for your life if I open my mouth to sing.

Problems already in Harman-Amrita friendship?

January 21st, 2009

Till recently the news was that Priyanka Chopra and Harman Baweja broke up because of his closeness to ‘Victory’ co-star Amrita Rao.

Good girl Amrita of course denied the rumors. She and Priyanka were even spotted bonding.

The latest is that she used to be good friends with Harman but now is pretty upset with him.

The petite dame thinks he’s hogging all the limelight during the pre-release promotional campaign of their movie. She also apparently got the shocking news that it was Harman who sneaked out details about their growing friendship to get more attention.

Well, we understand that Harman is desperate to make his next movie work after his ambitious futuristic film flopped. But why make Amrita suffer for the same?

But the girl also is not taking things lying down anymore.

She thinks he’s been doing a lot of manipulation and has conveyed her displeasure to the producers.

They have got the message and must have realized that Harman is doing a lot of self promotion and has asked him to slow it down.

Well, this cherubic dame can be fiery if there’s a need. Hope Harman got the message too.

Hottie Hansika

January 21st, 2009

For the first time in her career, Hansika would be doing a hot item number with Prabhas in his next film being directed by Meher Ramesh.

I'll do anything for director Meher since he is like my brother,” she opines. Being the remake of Hindi film Don, she would be invariably stepping into the shoes of Helen and Kareena Kapoor for this sizzling number. Will it be a real sizzler? “Neither do I know about the concept nor about my costume,” she smiles. Unlike her peers Ileana and Trisha, she is breaking a new ground. Could Prabhas-Hansika jodi set the screen on fire?

Trisha pairs with Gopichand after 5 years

January 21st, 2009

Once upon a time in tinselville, Gopichand was an established villain in Tollywood. He was the baddies for heroines and one of the heroines was Trisha in the movie 'Varsham' starring Prabhas in the lead. He was in the negative role of 'Bhadranna' at that time and now it's time for Gopichand to romance Trisha as a hero.

After plenty of time, say about 5 years, the pair is coming together on screen in the lead cast.

Director of the action packed flick 'Shouryam', Siva is going to direct this huge budget film to be produced jointly by J.Pulla Rao & Bhagavanlu.

Sathyaraj is also coming back to Telugu screens who is set to play as father of Gopichand in this film. The movie will begin shooting in February, as reported.

Deepika out Sonam in

January 21st, 2009

There's something spicy always revolving around the heroines of 'OSO' and 'Saawariya'. Yeah! These missies had their debut flicks hitting screens on the same time and indeed got professionally pitched at each other. Perhaps, the youngest 'Kapoor' had himself involved with stories cooked between them. And now, it's Akshay Kumar having his turn.

Akki wasn't so elated pairing up with Deepika, as the results for CC2C weren't commendable. Much before that his forthcoming flick 'Come On… Pappu' had no female lead finalized. Buzz has it that Akshay Kumar would be roping in Deepika if things work out well with Chandni Chowk. But as things didn't go as expected, exit Deepika and Enter Sonam into the scene.

Directed by Rohit Dhawan (Son of David Dhawan), the 90-Crore project is produced as a joint venture of Percept Pictures Company and Akshay Kumar. A comedy on its genre, the film is about relationships between the protagonist (Akshay) and a chimpanzee.

'Come On… Pappu' will start rolling from mid-August.

Let's hope that Akshay's decision to change heroines brings him luck in this flick!

Shekhar Sumar wanted a Refund on the Ticket of the CC2C Movie

January 21st, 2009

Like many people who went out to see CC2C, Shekhar Suman too hated the film and wanted a refund on the ticket of the movie. Chandi Chowk to China ‘got mixed reviews from audience and many suspected that Shekher made such comments on the film because his son’s film ‘Raaz: The Mystery Continues’ will be releasing in coming week.

But Shekhar is not alone in condemning the film. a number of critics wrote the film’s obituary as soon as it was released. Much hype was created about it being inspired by Akshay Kumar’s life. Also big names were associated with it like, Warner Bros., Sippys, Nikhil Advani. With some great locations like The Great Wall of China, Beutiful Deepika Padukone, Kung Fu and some Chinese Fighters. But all these could also not make it an Great (& hit) movie.

A tale of a guy travelling from Chandni Chowk to China, being considered as a king reborn, expecting him to free them from Hojo, their enemy. Entangled, in between the story of Deepika Padukone, as twin sisters, one chinese, and one Indian, with a Chinese father, who surprisingly gets back the police job & uniform, after being vanished for 20+ years!!!

Some scenes like flying in air etc were taken from the regular Chinese movies, and I am still figuring out, what a Cosmic Kung-Fu is??

Coming to the performances, Akshay Kumar was as usual, Good with comedy, timing of dialogues, Ease in acting. deepika PadukoneDeepika Padukone is good. The chinese one looks like Esha Deol. Is it cos, both are south Indinas ?? ( ;-) bad joke!! ). Other actors like, Mithun, Roger Yuan (as Inspector) are good. Ranvir Shourie as Guruji has been given a good share of screen, and he delivers well. The Character of Hojo was not well defined. Music, good background score, ok ok songs. Phatte Chak de is good one. Kudos to Kailash Kher. All seems good, but where did it lacked??

It lacked in story telling & Direction. Nikhil Advani, seemed a promising director with ease in story telling, in Kal Ho Na Ho. But lacked the pace in Salaa-e-Ishq. But in this movie, it seems he has lost itall!! What is that, when Maithun kicks Akshay and he falls here n there?? Whats the Cosmic Kung Fu? (yeah, I am still trying to understand), and the song in which akshay flies in air with Deepika. What was that?? Cosmic love??

At the end, what does he want to show, by tranforming Hojo in to a potato? Is this a kids film? And, if at last, Akshay has to use his Cooking skills to fight, whats the use of getting trained in Kung fu?…and Cosmic Kung Fu?? ( :-D ) I can only say, Jhol hai saara Jhol hai ye pyaare…..!!!! Nikhil, Better wake up, or Kal Ho Na Ho .. . .

Come on guys. Grow Up. You are premiering this in UK. Is this what u show to international Audience? and then Aksahy says: Keep your brain at home. Disgusting. Even if u keep your brain at home, you will find the movie Bogus.

Chandi Chowk to China seems entertaing for an hour, but then it drags. It drags hopelessly. Sorry Mr. Akshay, this is not the right path to be a King. I mean you are good, with Comedy, Action & all (except Emotions), but you need to be backed up by Good stories & Directors.

Saif and Deepika Padukone in Love Aaj Kal

January 21st, 2009

Saif Ali Khan and Imtiaz Ali are smiling these days. After tearing their hair out to come up with a title for Saif’s home production co-starring Deepika Padukone, they have finally come up with a title that suits the film. It’s Love Aaj Kal.

Our source close to Saif said, “Imtiaz and Saif couldn’t arrive at a decision as far as naming the film was concerned. So they decided to go ahead with their shooting and brainstorm about the film’s name later.

Eventually they both were so hassled that Saif thought of holding a contest inviting the audience to suggest a suitable name for their film.”

After the film’s shooting, Imtiaz and Saif had to eventually sit down for a brainstorming session. The source added, “The duo came up with different names.

After a lot of deliberation and thought, Imtiaz decided to call the film, Aaj Aur Kal, but was still apprehensive about it. Imtiaz wanted to change the title from Aaj Aur Kal to Aaj Kal.

But Saif disagreed with him saying that he wanted a title that would instantly connect with the audience, like Jab We Met. They then decided on Love Aaj Kal.”

Though Imtiaz remained unavailable for comment, a source close to the director confirmed the news and said, “Yes Imtiaz has decided to call the film Love Aaj Kal.”

Trisha Beats Herself

January 21st, 2009

Trisha has accepted to play the heroine opposite Gopichand for an untitled film and the news is that she has been offered a bomb of a price for the film, so high is the remuneration that it beats all the previous prices the actress has ever quoted for a film. In a way Trisha has beaten herself in the price war.

The actress has always been a costly affair in Telugu films, with her price being more for a Telugu film more than a Tamil one.

Many say Trisha is a bigger actress in Telugu than in Tamil films, the Tamil word is primarily ruled by Nayantara.

Drunken guy misbehaves with Minissha Lamba?

January 21st, 2009

Minissha Lamba’s birthday party was spoilt by a bottle-hitter who got too drunk to keep his behaviour in check.

Bollywood’s cute babe Minissha Lamba turned a year older on Sunday and threw a bash at Royal Palms at Goregaon. Her close friends and a few family members were invited to the party.

Among the guests was a twenty-something guy who had reportedly come with one of the guests. Once the party was in full swing, the said guy downed a few drinks and became the party spoiler.

According to reports, after having his fill, the guy began acting overenthusiastic and attracted a lot of attention. He even tried getting too close to Minissha. In fact, reports say he tried acting fresh with the actress.

Minissha’s protective brother Karan Lamba, who was also at the party, took the drunken guy aside and tried to put some sense back to his tipsy head. But the guy was probably too sloshed out to check his behaviour.

Ultimately he had to be thrown out of the party.

Minissha has confirmed the incident but she says it was a one-off incident that she prefers to forget.
